UniKL Young Guns scrapped through into the semi finals of the Milo Cup by overcoming Politeknik KPM 2-0 in the second leg of the quarterfinals at the National Hockey Stadium.
Also safely through are Petaling Jaya City Council who hammered Bukit Jalil Sports School 4-1 in the return leg for an overall 8-1 aggregate win.
Defending champions SSTMI Thunderbolts went on rampage, hammering MS Pahang Juniors 14-2 in the return leg for a whopping 22-2 aggregate win.
In another quarterfinal match, Olak-PKT defeated Malacca High School 4-2 on aggregate despite going down 1-0 in the return leg and will take on Thunderbolts in the semis.
UniKL played well in patches but will need to raise their game against PJCC whom they will meet in the two leg semis to be played on Wednesday and Friday.
Despite the 5-3 aggregate win, UniKL failed to sparkle, safe for the few minutes in the first half that yielded them the goals.
“It was yet another scrappy display and meeting PJCC has me worried as they are a team of fighters and can make it difficult for us,” said UniKL team manager Mohd Faiz Isa.
“We need to play consistently and make use of the half chances. It will be tough against PJCC and the first leg is vital to determine our progress.”
UniKL took the lead in the 9 th minute through Muhammad Shafirul Aqmal Mohd Saiful to extend the aggregate lead to 4-2 and that put additional pressure on Politeknik KPM.
Although KPM forced a few penalty corners but were devoid of ideas on how to put the ball into the net.
UniKL too were guilty in the penalty corner department, where they have been terrible since the start of the season, and they wasted four penalty corners before increasing the lead.
Muhammad Rahimi Iskandar Baharom then went on a solo run but failed to get the better of the KPM keeper Ridzwan Azmi, before picking up the rebound and sent an unstoppable reverse stick shot sailing into goal in the 32 nd minute to make it 2-0 on the day and 5-2 overall.
PJCC had a 4-1 lead from the first leg but they were in no mood to sit back and relax as they went for the jugular from the first whistle.
Muhd Emir Afzan Muhd Amir scored two quick goals in the 16 th and 38 th minutes to give PJCC a 2-0 advantage before Abdul Halim Jalil extended the lead in the 40 th minute.
Nor Ikhwan Nor Rahman made it 4-0 in the 61st minute and PJCC were safely through on a 8-1 aggregate.
