The Division One title of the MHC-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League could well be decided over a five-day period this week.

There are three teams in contention. Thunderbolt lead the standings on better goal difference over Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) with both on 12 points. MBI-Anderson are two points behind. All three have played four matches and have another four to complete the fixtures.

Defending lea­gue champions Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and de­­fen­­­ding overall champions Thun­der­bolt got their campaigns in the MHC-Milo-NSC Junior Hoc­key League off to a winning start.

While UniKL slogged to beat Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) 2-1 at the KL Hockey Stadium, Thunderbolt zapped their junior counterparts SSTMI 7-1 at Taman Daya in Johor Baru.

Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt hope to be third time lucky in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) final.

They had played second fiddle for the last two seasons. In 2009, they lost 4-5 on penalty strokes to Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) after a 3-3 deadlock in extra time. Last year, they won the Division One title but was beaten 1-2 by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) in the final.

Tampil dengan reputasi hebat muncul juara berganda musim lalu, SSTMI di depan seawal minit ketujuh menerusi M Amirol Aideed Md Arshad sebelum dihadiahkan pukulan sudut penalti pada minit ke-21 tetapi gagal disempurnakan dengan baik.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three teams will make their debut in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MHL) which begins on Jan 11.

1Mas of Penang, SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman of Ipoh and Kuala Langat of Selangor will join 20 other teams in the Under-19 league. A total of 26 teams competed in the league last season.
